Recently, the China Scholarship Council announced the results of the "2026 Talent Support Program for National and Regional Studies". The project "Cultivating Talents for Research on Contemporary Australian Society and Its Multicultural Spectrum" proposed by the School of Foreign Languages was successfully approved for funding. This is the second time our school has been granted this project.

Led by Professor Peng Qinglong, the project leverages the school’s disciplinary strengths, draws on the resource platforms of the Academy for International and Regional Studies and Australian Studies Center, and builds on the long-standing cooperative relationship with the University of Melbourne, Australia. The project focuses on the generation and changes of contemporary Australian society and its multicultural spectrum, and is committed to cultivating a group of high-level interdisciplinary talents who can not only grasp and understand the social reality and national psychology of Australia, but also serve China's strategic needs towards Australia, international communication and global governance.
The project will be implemented from 2026 to 2028. During the three-year period, a total of 15 students and scholars, including doctoral students, master's students, senior research scholars and visiting scholars, will be selected to pursue joint training and academic visits at the University of Melbourne. The selected fields of study include foreign languages and literature, applied economics, law, world history, etc.
The approval of the "National and Regional Studies Talent Support Program" this time is another significant achievement of the School of Foreign Languages in deeply implementing its internationalization development strategy, marking a solid step forward in promoting the high-quality development of regional and national studies. In the future, the SFL will continue to give full play to its disciplinary cross-cutting advantages, integrate high-quality resources, deepen practical cooperation with overseas top universities, research institutions and international organizations, and actively promote the construction of the interdisciplinary field of regional and national studies.
